Yes, that Waldo. No, I don't know where I am either.

Waldo's Wares is my little cabinet of curiosities - a collection of handcrafted sculptures, cabinet knobs, bottle stoppers, and stained glass made by hand in my studio. I sculpt each piece myself, then cast them in resin or cold-cast metal powder to give them real weight and permanence. Every piece starts as an idea, gets shaped by hand, and ends up as something you can hold, display, or use every single day.

For most of my career I was a chip design engineer at Apple - spending my days building things too small to see. Retirement gave me the chance to flip that completely and make things you can actually touch. I have a soft spot for skulls, strange beauty, and objects that make people smile before they make them do a double-take.

My grandfather was an oral surgeon, born in 1899, and for as long as I knew him there was a real human skull in his home - shellacked, well-handled, with a section cut away above the teeth from some long-ago study. I never learned how he came to own it. I just knew it was the coolest object in the house. When he passed, it made its way to me, and I’ve been explaining it ever since: “this was my grandfather’s skull - well, not his skull, it belonged to him.” I also ended up with a set of his dental tools. They make excellent sculpting instruments - most of the pieces in this shop were shaped, at least in part, by tools that spent their first career in a dentist’s hands. That’s his skull in the photo at the top of this site, on the left, next to one of mine.
