Description
A small memento mori, cast in real metal and sized for a desk. Sculpted at 1:5 anatomical scale, it stands 1.3 inches tall and is cold-cast in aluminum finished to an antique silver tone.
The metal goes all the way through. Real aluminum powder is mixed into the entire casting – nothing here is plated or painted, and “antique silver” is the color of the finish. One honest note on the weight: aluminum is a light metal, so this piece carries its age in the finish rather than in heft.
The whole process runs at room temperature. Aluminum powder goes into liquid resin, poured into a mold made from my original hand-sculpted skull, and every casting is then finished by hand until the surface reads as old, tarnished silver.
Each one is cast and finished after you order it, so yours will not be an exact match for the photographs. That is the point. Yours will be one of a kind.
I have one of these little guys on my own desk. It also does well on a shelf of old hardbacks, in a specimen cabinet, or anywhere the palette is already cool. Keeping a skull where you work is an old habit and a practical one. It argues with the assumption that there is always more time. It also makes a genuinely strange gift for the person who already has everything.
Photographed alongside the brass and bronze so the three finishes can be seen together. This page is the Metal Skull Sculpture on its own. The other two are separate sculptures with their own pages.
All sculptures are made to order and take 3 to 7 days to produce.
Need more than shown in stock? Get in touch. I can accommodate larger quantities, just allow additional lead time beyond the standard 3 to 7 days.
